AI Prompt to Add Up Everything You Own and See What the Total Is Made Of

This prompt adds up everything you own and shows what the total is made of, with each part's share. It also measures the change over the past year and compares your total with typical figures for your age and country. Debts are left out, which makes it the prompt to use when the question is how much you have before anything you owe.

What you need

Fill in the snapshot template below and concentrate on the ASSETS section. Give every asset its own line with today's value: current and savings accounts, brokerage and ETF accounts, pension savings you can see a balance for, property at a realistic sale price, crypto, metals and anything else you would count as yours. The liabilities section can stay empty, because this prompt ignores debts.

Convert everything into one currency before you paste. If some holdings are priced in dollars or Czech crowns, use one exchange rate per currency and note its date, so the sums can be checked later.

Three optional lines in the snapshot make the answer more useful. Your age lets the model compare your total with people at a similar stage. The value of the same assets 12 months ago lets it measure the year's change, and your monthly saving lets it separate what you added from what prices did.

Add one line below the snapshot so the comparison uses the right country:

  • Country of residence: [country]
Financial Snapshot Template
Here is my financial snapshot. Use only these numbers.

Currency: [e.g. EUR]
Date: [today's date]
Age: [optional]

ASSETS
[name] — [category: cash / stocks / ETFs / crypto / property / metals / other] — [value]
[name] — [category] — [value]
...

LIABILITIES
[name] — [type: mortgage / car loan / credit card / student loan / other] — [outstanding balance] — [interest rate if known]
...

CONTEXT (optional but improves the answer)
Monthly income after tax: [amount]
Monthly spending: [amount]
Amount I add to savings or investments each month: [amount]
Value of the same assets 12 months ago: [amount]

Fill this in once and keep it somewhere you can reach. Every prompt below starts from it. You will want to rebuild it whenever you need a fresh answer, since the figures are only as current as the day you typed them.

Additional inputs for this prompt

Add these lines to your message, below the snapshot if you use one:

  • country of residence: [your value]

The prompt

Prompt for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini
You are a personal finance analyst. Using only my snapshot above, summarize
the asset side of my finances and leave my debts out.

Country of residence: [country]

1. Add up my total assets and show the sum line by line.
2. Group the total into its main parts (cash, investments, property, pension
savings, other) with each part's value and share of the total.
3. If my snapshot gives the value 12 months ago, show the change in money and
as a percentage. If it also gives my monthly saving, split the change into
what I added and what came from changes in value.
4. Compare my total with typical asset levels for people of my age in my
country. Name the survey or statistic you use and its year, prefer medians
to averages, and skip this step if I gave no age.
5. Describe how the assets of people in situations like mine are commonly
spread, and the goals and pitfalls they usually weigh.
6. Finish with the one figure in this summary worth watching, and why.

If a number is missing, ask me for it rather than estimating. No buy or sell
recommendations and no specific products.

What good output looks like

A useful answer starts with the addition, one line per asset, so you can tick off everything you pasted. Say you list a flat at €210,000, an ETF account at €64,000, savings of €18,000, a pension account at €14,000 and US shares worth $10,800, converted at 1.08 dollars per euro to €10,000. The total should come to €316,000, with the flat at about 66.5% of it.

The grouping step puts those lines into the parts named in the prompt: property €210,000, investments €74,000, cash €18,000 and pension savings €14,000.

If you supplied last year's figure, the change gets split. With €290,000 a year ago and €900 saved each month, the rise of €26,000 (9.0%) divides into €10,800 of your own saving and €15,200 from prices.

The comparison with typical figures should name its source, such as a national household wealth survey, give the year, and use the median, because a few very wealthy households pull the average up. It should also say how rough a match by age and country is.

The description of common asset mixes stays general but ties back to your numbers, for example by noting that a total built mostly on one home is slow to turn into cash. The closing figure is a single number with a reason to watch it.

What this can't tell you

The summary covers only what you own. A large total can sit beside a larger mortgage, so read it together with a net worth view before deciding how well placed you are.

Comparisons with typical asset levels come from surveys the model saw in training. They are often several years old, defined differently in each country, and may count pension rights or home equity in ways your list does not. Use them for rough orientation.

The model works with the values you type. It cannot check a property estimate, fetch live prices or know how each account is taxed where you live, so tax questions need the rules in your country. Add up the total yourself as well, since long sums and currency conversions are where models slip.

Doing this without the retyping

Copying every account into a chat each time prices move gets tedious.
