AI Prompt to Keep Track of Debt Payments, Rate Changes and Warning Signs
This prompt is about keeping debts under control from month to month. It lays out what you pay and when, lists the dates on which a rate or payment will change, and names the warning signs to look for. Then it gives you a short monthly check. The order in which to repay is left to the debt payoff prompt.
What you need
Paste the snapshot template below with each liability's balance and interest rate. Fill in monthly income after tax in the context section, because the model compares your total payments with it.
Below the snapshot, add two lines:
- Monthly payment for each debt: [debt name and amount, one per debt]
- Next rate change or final payment date for each debt: [debt name and date]
The dates matter most. For a mortgage with a fixed-rate period, write down the date that period ends. For a 0% offer or a promotional card rate, write the day it ends and the rate that follows, if the terms state it. For a loan fixed until the end, the final payment date is enough. Your loan contract, the lender's app or the latest annual statement usually shows these dates.
If a payment leaves your account on a set day, you can add that too, for example "car loan 260 EUR on the 15th". The model can then check whether several payments fall just before your salary arrives. Convert debts in another currency to your snapshot currency and note the exchange rate you used.

You are a financial educator who helps people keep track of their debts. Using
only my snapshot above, plus the lines below, help me monitor and manage what I
owe.
Monthly payment for each debt: [debt name and amount, one per debt]
Next rate change or final payment date for each debt: [debt name and date]
1. List my debts in date order, starting with the next rate change, end of a
promotional period or final payment.
2. For each upcoming rate change, show how the yearly interest would move if the
new rate were 1 and 2 percentage points above today's. Label these as
illustrations.
3. Add up my monthly payments and give them as a share of my income after tax.
4. List the warning signs to watch for with debts like mine, such as paying only
minimums or new borrowing replacing repaid debt.
5. Explain common practices people use to stay on top of similar debts.
6. Give me a monthly check of no more than six items, with the figure to look at
for each.
If a number or date is missing, ask me for it instead of estimating. Keep this
educational: no recommendations to borrow, refinance or consolidate, and no
lenders or products. What good output looks like
A good answer starts with a short timeline. Say it is November 2026 and your snapshot is in euros. The first entry might be a 140,000 EUR mortgage whose fixed rate of 2.1% ends in March 2027, four months away, followed by a 0% furniture plan that moves to a card rate in June 2027 and a car loan that ends in 2029.
The rate step should be plain arithmetic, labelled as illustration. At 1 percentage point higher, the mortgage costs about 1,400 EUR more interest in the first year; at 2 points, about 2,800 EUR. That gives you a range to plan against before any offer from the lender arrives.
The payment total should come with its working. A mortgage payment of 950 EUR, a car loan of 6,500 CZK (260 EUR at an example rate of 25 CZK to the euro) and a 40 EUR card minimum make 1,250 EUR a month, which is 25% of 5,000 EUR take-home pay.
The warning signs should fit your list: a card balance that grows while only the minimum is paid, a promotional period ending with no plan, or a new loan taken out to cover payments on old ones. The monthly check should take about ten minutes, with each item tied to a figure you can look up, such as the card balance compared with last month.
What this can't tell you
The timeline is built from the dates you type. If your contract lets the lender change a rate or fee at other times, the model has no way to know. The rate after a fixed period is set by your lender, and the 1 and 2 point scenarios only show how sensitive your costs are.
How much notice a lender must give before a rate changes, and whether you can repay without a fee when a fixed period ends, depend on your contract and on consumer-credit rules in your country. The model may describe one country's rules as if they applied everywhere, so compare its answer with your contract. It also cannot see your spending, so a payment share that looks comfortable may still be tight. Check the additions yourself.
