AI Prompt to Summarize One Asset Category: What It Holds and How Its Value Is Spread

This prompt summarizes a single category of your assets, such as your property, your pension savings or your crypto, instead of everything you own. It gives the category's total and its share of all your assets, shows how value is spread across its holdings, and compares that structure with how such a category is commonly set up, including liquidity, expected returns and tax.

What you need

Use the snapshot template below, but list only the holdings that belong to this one category in the ASSETS section, each with today's value. Leave out everything else you own, and leave the liabilities section empty. The prompt tells the model that the list is one category, so the answer treats it as one part of your wealth.

If the category holds property, use realistic sale values and mention any mortgage in a note, because the summary looks at gross values. For investments, the full fund name helps more than a ticker alone. Convert everything into one currency.

The total of all your assets lets the model work out what share of your wealth this category takes. Take it from your own records or from a total assets summary; a rounded figure is fine.

Add these two lines below the snapshot:

  • Category name: [e.g. Real estate, Pension savings, Crypto]
  • Total value of all assets: [amount]

Prompt for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini
You are a personal finance analyst. Using only my snapshot above and the lines
below, summarize one category of my assets. The holdings listed are the
contents of that category, not everything I own.

Category name: [e.g. Real estate, Pension savings, Crypto]
Total value of all assets: [amount]

1. Give the category's total, the number of holdings in it, and its share of
   all my assets.
2. Show how the value is spread across the holdings, largest first, with each
   one's share of the category.
3. Describe the main traits of this kind of category: how easily it turns into
cash, what returns people usually expect from it over long periods, and how
it is commonly taxed, noting that the rules depend on the country.
4. Compare its structure with how people commonly set up a similar category,
such as how many holdings they spread it over or how much one holding
   usually takes.
5. Name the goals people usually hold this kind of category for and the
   pitfalls they meet.
6. If the data is too thin for a useful summary, say so and give general
points about this kind of asset.

Ask for missing figures rather than estimating. No buy or sell
recommendations and no specific products.

What good output looks like

The answer opens with three numbers: the category total, the count of holdings and the share of everything you own. Say your Real estate category holds the flat you live in at €240,000, a rental studio in Prague valued at CZK 3,000,000, converted at 25 crowns per euro to €120,000, and a building plot at €40,000. The category comes to €400,000 across three holdings, and with total assets of €560,000 it makes up 71.4% of your wealth.

The spread step lists the flat at 60%, the studio at 30% and the plot at 10% of the category.

The traits section should be specific to property: slow to sell, with agent fees and transfer costs that vary by country, rent as the main income, and value changes you only see when something sells or is revalued. It should say that tax on rent and on a sale depends on local rules, without quoting a rate it cannot source.

The comparison with common setups stays general. For this category, a good answer notes that most of it is the home you live in, which cannot be sold without moving, and that the plot produces no income.

Goals and pitfalls close the summary: housing security, rental income and long-term value on one side; thin liquidity, dependence on one local market and under-counted upkeep costs on the other.

What this can't tell you

The summary sees one category in isolation. It cannot tell whether the rest of your assets balance it out, and it ignores debts, so a property bought largely with a mortgage looks as solid as one owned outright. Pair it with a whole-picture prompt before drawing conclusions about your wealth.

Typical structures and expected returns come from the model's general training, with no data on your local market. Property values in particular are estimates until something sells.

Tax treatment of rent, gains and pension savings differs by country and often by account type, so take tax remarks as points to check against local rules. The share of total assets is only as right as the total you typed, and the model can slip on percentages.

Doing this without the retyping

Outside the app, you would pick out a category's holdings and total them by hand before each question.
