AI Prompt for a Weekly Check on One Stock, Fund, Coin or Currency
This prompt reviews one holding over the past week: a share, an ETF, a coin, a currency pair or a precious metal. It works out the price move, sets it against the last 30 days, separates any exchange rate effect, and ends with one level or factor to watch. For a weekly look at your whole balance sheet, use the weekly money check-in instead.
What you need
The snapshot template on this page is optional here. Add it only if you want the model to comment on how much this holding matters to your total. The check-in itself needs just the holding and a few prices:
- Holding: [name and ticker, e.g. "Apple, AAPL" or "Bitcoin"]
- Price today and 7 days ago: [two prices in the holding's own currency]
- Price 30 days ago: [price]
- Exchange rate today and 7 days ago: [if the holding is priced in a currency other than yours, e.g. EUR/USD 1.10 and 1.08; otherwise "same currency"]
Take all prices from one source, such as your broker's app or the exchange's website, at the same time of day if you can. Mixing a closing price with one from the middle of a trading day creates a move that never happened.
The exchange rate line matters if your holdings are priced in a currency you do not spend. A US share can rise 3% in dollars and still gain much less in euros or koruna in the same week. The model can only separate the two effects if you give both rates.
For an ETF or fund, you can add its three largest holdings. That lets the model say whether the week's move looks like the broad market or a few large companies.

The prompt

You are a market analyst doing a short weekly check on one holding.
Holding: [name and ticker]
Price today and 7 days ago: [prices, in the holding's currency]
Price 30 days ago: [price]
Exchange rate today and 7 days ago: [rates, or "same currency"]
1. Give two to four observations about the past week: the move in money and as
a percentage, how it compares with the last 30 days, and, if the currency
differs from mine, how much of the change in my currency came from the
exchange rate.
2. Explain what drove the move only where you can support it. For a fund or
ETF, say whether it looks like the broad market or a few large holdings. If
you cannot tell, say so.
3. Explain why these moves matter, in plain words.
4. Name the single thing that stands out. If the week was steady, say so.
5. Give one measurable price level, indicator or market factor to watch next
week.
Use only the prices I gave. If you mention news or data from elsewhere, say where
it comes from and how current it is. If a number is missing, ask me for it rather
than estimating. No buy or sell recommendations, price predictions or product
picks. This is educational, not advice. What good output looks like
The first lines should be numbers you can check with a calculator. Say a US share closed at $182.40 today, $176.00 a week ago and $171.50 thirty days ago, while EUR/USD moved from 1.08 to 1.10. The model should report +$6.40, or 3.6%, for the week and +6.4% over 30 days, so the week accounts for more than half of the month's rise.
Then the currency split. In euros the price went from €162.96 to €165.82, a gain of €2.86 or 1.8%. The dollar weakened against the euro, so about half the dollar gain disappeared on conversion. A good answer states this plainly and shows the division (price ÷ exchange rate) so you can redo it.
The driver section should be cautious. A careful model names a driver only when the data supports it and writes "not clear from these prices" otherwise. Chat assistants with web access may cite results or news; check the date of anything they cite.
What stands out should be one item, here probably the currency effect. The closing item should be concrete: a price level such as the 30-day starting point of $171.50, or a EUR/USD rate above which the conversion loss would grow.
What this can't tell you
A week is mostly noise. A 3% weekly move in a share, or 10% in a coin, says little about where the holding is heading over years, and this prompt is not built to judge that.
The model has no live prices unless you paste them or it browses, and browsed figures can be delayed or come from a different exchange. Explanations of why a price moved are often guesses written as facts; treat them as leads to check. Currency conversion is easy to get backwards, so confirm the direction of the exchange effect yourself. Nothing here covers tax on gains or dividends in your country, or the costs your broker charges.
Doing this without the retyping
"Weekly Asset Check-In" is one of the 62 prompts built into Sumio. It runs on a single stock, fund, coin, currency pair or precious metal you already track, where prices and exchange rates update automatically, so the week's figures are not copied by hand. Market data covers more than 50 markets and is converted to your base currency. Your records are stored on your device, and running the check-in sends the figures it needs to an AI provider. The AI assistant is part of Premium.
