AI Prompt to Summarize Exchange Rate Data for a Currency Pair You Hold
This prompt summarizes the market data for one currency pair, such as EUR/CZK or EUR/USD: where the rate is today, how it moved over 30 days and 12 months, its yearly range and how much it swings. It then shows what those moves did to the foreign currency you hold, measured in your own. It is meant for anyone who keeps savings in a second currency.
What you need
You need the pair, a few rates with dates, and the amount of foreign currency you hold. The snapshot template on this page is optional. The summary works from the lines below, and the snapshot would only tell the model what else you own.
Fill in these lines inside the prompt:
- Currency pair: [e.g. EUR/CZK]
- Rate today: [rate and date]
- Rate 30 days ago and 12 months ago: [two rates]
- 12-month high and low: [two rates]
- Amount I hold: [amount and currency, e.g. 4,000 EUR]
Write the pair the way your source quotes it. EUR/CZK at 24.60 means one euro costs 24.60 koruna; CZK/EUR is the same price turned upside down. Many mistakes in currency answers come from mixing the two directions, so keep one direction in all four rate lines.
A chat model with no browsing tool has no current exchange rate, so the rates must come from you. Central banks publish daily reference rates, the European Central Bank and the Czech National Bank among them, and they make a consistent source for history.
The rate your bank or broker gives you includes a margin on top of the market rate. Expect your own conversions to differ a little from the figures in the summary.

The prompt
Copy this exact text and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini directly beneath your snapshot block.
You are a currency market analyst. Summarize the market data for this currency
pair in plain language, using only the rates below.
Currency pair: [pair, as quoted]
Rate today: [rate and date]
Rate 30 days ago and 12 months ago: [two rates]
12-month high and low: [two rates]
Amount I hold: [amount and currency]
1. Explain what the quote means: which currency is the base, and what a rise
or fall in the rate means for each side.
2. Calculate the change over 30 days and 12 months in percent, and show the
same moves for the pair quoted the other way round.
3. Show where today's rate sits in the 12-month range.
4. Calculate what my holding was worth in the other currency of the pair 12
months ago and today, and the difference.
5. Explain what these figures say about volatility, and compare the pair with
how similar pairs typically behave in calm periods and in shocks.
If there is not enough data, say so plainly. Ask for missing rates rather than
estimating. No rate forecasts, no advice to buy, sell or exchange, and no
banks, brokers or products suggested. What good output looks like
A good answer opens by spelling out the quote, because everything after it depends on the direction. The changes follow, with the arithmetic and both directions shown. Say EUR/CZK was 25.20 twelve months ago and is 24.60 today. The euro has fallen 2.38% against the koruna, and the koruna has risen 2.44% against the euro. One move, two percentages, depending on which side you start from.
Your holding comes next. If you hold 4,000 EUR and count in koruna, it was worth 100,800 CZK a year ago and 98,400 CZK today, a difference of 2,400 CZK, while the number of euros you own has not changed. The answer should say plainly that this is a change on paper until you convert.
The range and volatility section places today's rate between the 12-month high and low and explains volatility as the size of typical swings. Pairs between closely linked economies, such as the euro and the Danish krone, which Denmark keeps close to the euro by policy, usually move far less than pairs involving high-inflation currencies. A good answer also admits that five data points describe the swings without measuring them precisely.
The comparison with typical scenarios names past shocks in general terms and points to nothing ahead.
What this can't tell you
A chat model without browsing has no live exchange rates, and currency markets trade around the clock on weekdays, so a summary built on yesterday's rate is already a record of yesterday. Treat the figures as true for the dates you pasted.
The summary uses market or reference rates. When you convert, your bank's or broker's margin applies, and in a stable pair it can be larger than a month's move.
The model cannot tell you what central banks will do. It also has no view on tax: some countries tax gains on foreign currency and some exempt small amounts, and the rules for yours sit outside this answer. Check which direction each percentage refers to.

In Sumio this is "Market Data Summary" on a forex holding, one of the 62 prompts built into the AI assistant, which is part of Premium. It runs with one tap on a currency you already hold in the app, where exchange rates update automatically and amounts convert to your base currency, so there are no rates to look up first. Your records are stored on your device; the summary sends the figures it needs to an AI provider.
